PTFE or Teflon-coated O-rings combine the resilience and sealing force of an elastomer with the chemical resistance of Teflon.

Elastomer or Rubber O-rings often suffer from high friction and limited resistance to aggressive chemicals and gas permeation, whereas Teflon O-rings are rigid with no effective memory and high compression set.

By coating a core of Silicon or Viton with a relatively thin encapsulation of Teflon, an O-ring is produced which has maximum sealing capability:

 

* Solvent resistant

* Chemically inert (except for attack by alkaline metals, fluorine and some halogenated compounds at high temperatures)

* Very low permeability to gases

* They have a memory near to that of rubber O-rings

* The Teflon coatings provide an excellent abrasion resistance
